ABOUT K/NAN
Katie Nickou’s passion for horses began early. Raised in Marietta, Georgia, she started riding at the age of five and quickly developed a deep connection to the Thoroughbred. By thirteen, she owned her first Thoroughbred and had already set her sights on Kentucky, drawn by its central role in the industry.
She later moved to Kentucky to attend Midway University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Equine Management in 2011. Following graduation, Katie joined Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, where she spent six years gaining hands-on experience across multiple departments. Her time there provided a strong foundation in equine health, management, and operations.
Katie later joined Four Star Sales, where she further developed her expertise in the commercial Thoroughbred market. Today, she remains actively engaged in the sales world, regularly working the East Coast sales circuit, including Keeneland, Fasig-Tipton, and OBS.
Outside of the sales ring, Katie focuses on retraining Off-the-Track Thoroughbreds, developing them for second careers as athletic jumping prospects. Her personal horse, B.A., is the exception—one she chose to keep.
